Cyber High Now Available for VHS Students!

In the interest finding creative ways to meet the needs of the VHS students, we are proud to be able to offer Cyber High to enrolled students. One advantage to taking Cyber High through VHS is that it will offer students a chance to take core area coursework (English, history, math, and science) as a college prep. class, unlike the other coursework at VHS. This could mean you are more prepared for a move to the college level after graduation, saving you time and money while there. Like all VHS offerings, Cyber High allows students to move at their own pace, earning as much as five credits in a few weeks! Moreover, Cyber High offers a way for VHS to offer more interesting elective options that can be tailored to meet student needs. Ask Mr. Reese or Mr. Anderson if you want to know more!

VHS Student of the Month: Brandy Phillips

Brandy Phillips is an energetic sixteen-year-old from Murphys, hoping to be a professional cook after leaving VHS; she currently is working as a hostess at Hillbillies Restaurant but hopes to move into the kitchen soon. Brandy's current GPA is approximately 2.0 cumulative and 2.5 for the 4th Quarter and likely has another full semester before she finishes at VHS. Brandy will be attending Columbia College when she graduates to participate in their Hospitality Management program. After Brandy set up her own work station in a corner of the room, Mr. Reese, one of Brandy's VHS teachers along with Mr. Anderson, noted "that while the approach may not work for everyone, it was one of those instances where a student knows exactly what works best for her; she showed us all how effective it was over the next few months.”

Vallecito High School is an alternative educational community, committed to providing all students a quality individualized educational program in a safe, orderly environment fully equipped to teach 21st century skills. As a learning community, we strive to increase student success, to be responsive to community needs, and to foster accountability for all.

VHS Staff Profiles

VHS Teacher Mr. Anderson, Principal Ms. Luchetti, VHS Teacher Mr. Reese

This is Grover Anderson’s second year at Vallecito High School.  After earning a degree in Dramatic Art with a minor in English at UC Santa Barbara, Mr. Anderson spent ten years working in construction management and adult technology education.  As a member of Bret Harte’s Class of 2004, he appreciates the opportunity to work with students from his community, particularly those who don’t fit the traditional student profile.  Few students at Vallecito have travelled an easy path, and Mr. Anderson’s primary objective is to provide them with as many tools in their pursuit of civil, educational, and occupational advancement as possible.

Andrew Reese is in his twenty-sixth year in education. After earning his BA in English and Philosophy and his MA in Rhetoric and the Teaching of Writing from Stanislaus State and a Teaching Credential from National University, Mr. Reese taught in the California and Oregon Community College systems, taught at the Tuolumne Rancheria for the Me-Wuk Indians, taught at a charter school for teenage youth offenders, and, finally, taught at Bret Harte High School before coming to Vallecito Continuation High School. Having worked with all types of students, from all ages and backgrounds, Mr. Reese finds that working with alternative education students provides some of the best opportunities to see education in one of its purest forms, with learners navigating their difficult paths to successful academic growth.
